User journeys

Status: draft, to be validated with real users.

1. Lindiwe identifies a plant at her gogo's house

  1. Opens Reservoir (offline, regional pack already downloaded).
  2. Taps the camera; guidance overlay suggests a leaf close-up and a whole-plant shot.
  3. Gets "Possible matches": top candidate with a confidence bar; a banner shows a similar toxic species and how to tell them apart.
  4. Opens the entry; sees the name in isiZulu with audio, and "Traditionally used…" claims attributed to sources/communities.
  5. Taps "Ask someone who knows" → shares the page with her gogo to add what she knows.

2. Gogo Nomsa shares what she knows

  1. A family member sets up the app and her language; the app speaks to her.
  2. She photographs a plant and says its name and uses aloud.
  3. The Elicitor asks gentle follow-up questions in isiZulu ("Which part of the plant? Who taught you?"), clearly marked as the app, not a person.
  4. A summary is read back to her for confirmation.
  5. Consent step, spoken and visual: "Who may see this? Everyone / My community / Only keepers of this knowledge." "May the app's AI use this?" (default: no) "Show your name?" (yes/no).
  6. It's saved on her phone, synced later. She sees it in her list and can change her choices or remove it at any time.

3. Thabo cooks his mother's dish

  1. Searches a dish; finds a recipe contributed by a Tshivenda-speaking community member.
  2. Ingredients map to plants; he sees substitutes available in Cape Town.
  3. Plays pronunciation audio; teaches his children the words.
  4. Adds his own family variation as a new, attributed claim.

4. Dr. Naidoo reviews safety

  1. Opens the web review queue; sees claims flagged unreviewed on a caution species.
  2. Compares against literature, edits the safety note, marks reviewed.
  3. The claim publishes per its consent; the audit log records the decision.

5. Sipho reviews his language

  1. Custodian dashboard lists missing terms and machine-draft translations awaiting review.
  2. Approves, corrects or rejects; his corrections are logged as expert review.
  3. A language is marked "reviewed" in the app when thresholds are met.

6. A community withdraws a record

  1. A custodian opens the record, selects Withdraw, picks a reason (optional).
  2. The record disappears from public views and search immediately; caches are purged; derived data is removed; a tombstone remains for audit.
  3. The contributor is notified.
